The University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team’s first road match of the season featured more of the same — except in the case of Tai Manu-Olevao.
The sophomore outside hitter posted a career-high 13 kills and Emily Hartong also had 13 as the Rainbow Wahine swept South Dakota 25-19, 25-21, 25-21 in the opening match of the Shocker Volleyball Classic in Wichita, Kan.
Seeking a fourth tournament title of the season, UH (9-1) won its seventh straight match. UH faces Creighton at noon today (850 AM).
Manu-Olevao, a Hilo native and a graduate of Punahou (Oahu), made her biggest presence of the match with two kills that fueled a 4-0 run to end Game 2.
Hartong, a senior All-American at outside hitter, notched 13 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Sophomore middle blocker Jade Vorder, the nation’s third-leading hitter, was efficient as usual with seven kills on 10 swings without an error, freshman Nikki Taylor also added seven kills and junior Kalei Adolpho chipped in with six. With 40 assists, setter Mita Uiato directed a Rainbow Wahine offense that hit .280.
Kendall Kritenbrink put down 14 kills for the Coyotes (9-4), who hit .177.
